Dear Mr. Ngiraingas:
As you are well aware, the tourism industry has become known as our “bread and butter industry”. As such, it is the government’s responsibility to take the necessary measures to enhance, develop and improve government services in an effort to assist the private sector in the growth of this industry.
One of the most important sectors of this industry that I feel has been ignored over the years is the taxi service sector. I am informed that efforts by business in this sector have lobbied numerous government officials over the years to no avail for the designation of taxi waiting areas in front of the International Airport in Airai and the Belau National Museum in Ngerbeched, Koror State.
By this letter I am directing you to meet with Mr. Charles Obichang, Director of the Bureau of Aviation and Minister Faustina R. Marugg to provide a designated parking lane to accommodate at least two (2) vehicles at a time in the above-mentioned areas.
The parking space shall have “Taxi” painted on the pavement with a clearly visible sign identifying the area.

It’s about time ! We gave up after numerous attempts. Others continued but It felt like government officials only have eyes and ears for tour companies. We felt like second class citizens. Still most people don’t know that we taxi drivers are also on the front line in the tourism industry. How we showcase our island with good customer services has an impact in the tourism industry.
Transportation is essential for our tourists to get a full effect of what our island can offer. Keeping and limiting their movements will only limit their sense of adventure. The chances for them to come back to Palau for a second or third vacation will be limited….
